Kids of Today

Children oF TODAY

Long ago ,before television and computer was invented, children used to have plenty of free time and freedom at hand. They had no big dreams, expectations, rivalry or stress and never feared or despised homework.

Parents never forced their dreams and goals on children, and children never felt the burden of life. Families were closely knit and life was simple, colourful and enjoyable.

But as time passed things began to change. The children who loved playing ‘house’ with wooden and straw dolls were later fascinated by adorable Barbie dolls. The children who loved collecting colourful pebbles later switched to collecting high tech 3D games, toys and figures. The children who loved exploring their neighborhoods later cooped up in their rooms and browsed the internet instead.

Since little one’s leisure time is spent on the computer, he gets less exercise and fresh air building stress and tension and becomes forgetful and quick tempered. In a busy household where conversation is less, the children slowly becomes trapped in an isolated world.

Even if he gets bulled, teased or punished at school he has no one to share his worries. And so he conceals his emotions and buries himself in books. He will not let anyone worry about him nor will he worry about others. For the sake of his parents who want their child to be number one . Eventually, he may turn into an egoist and treat  books and computer as his sole friends.

It’s true that the child who works hard at studies will perform well in examinations. Once he finishes the examinations from school to university, he will secure a reputed profession. And then he will work persistently  to achieve his goals.

Later he will teach his children, that books are more important than friends and time is precious so do not waste on trivial things. His children will continue the same lifecycle and will pass the family motto of ‘perfection on’ to the next  generation.

It sound perfect in a competitive world where survival is only fit for the toughest. But can a person  who lived all his life seeking perfection be able to find true happiness and gratification?

In the worst case scenario, a child can become intimidated by high expectations and develop too much stress trying to live up to them. He will panic and fret whenever he gets a second or lower place. The more he gets flustered, the more he drops in performance. He will soon be in the glaring spotlight of his teachers and parents demanding for reasons.

It the child is lucky to surpass all hurdles and secure a good job, he may still lack the ability to understand human emotion. He may not agree or be happy with slow learners and workers. He will demand for perfections, will take decisions with out discussion and will not listen to suggestions and will not listen to suggestions. Soon he will become an isolated workaholic striving for ‘eternal perfection’. When he has hardly any time for his family, the bonds will loosen and fall apart. Life will continue to be routine, dull and lonely.

In contrast, a child who grows up surrounded by friends, fun and laughter will be better at understanding and taking care of others.

They will assist their colleagues and subordinates and will collaborate naturally. And so they can be great team players and inspiring leaders. They will balance studies with play and work with family and pursue achievable goals.

They will have close-knit families and will allow their children to study together with their friends – sharing knowledge and helping those in need.

They will be blessed with good  friends to guide them towards success and share their good and bad times alike. Life will continue to be full of surprises,  excitement and joy.

For the child, it is true that studies are important but so are all the magic and wonders of childhood . Those wonderful moments of childhood are some of the  best treasures they could ever find. And so to collect those cherished memories, let the child be a child when he is still a mere child.
